This wonderful experience has to be shared separately from my Lisbon stories. It was a dream come true restaurant visit, which I have been craving for years. I first heard of the master of the Mediterranean Cuisine, when he had a guest appearance at the Hangar7 in Salzburg in 2009, but somehow didn’t find somebody, who wanted to join me for this delight. When planning the Lisboa Trip, I knew I wouldn’t miss the second chance and booked a table for lunch. I visited the city in winter and knew that the view from the restaurant is magnifique, as Eleven is located on the highest hilltop in the city in the Eduardo VII park, within the Amália Rodrigues garden. So I preferred lunchtime over dinner (only reason).
The Star-Cook, who is well known for cooking with natural, fresh, local and most important: only seasonal products, with german roots, born in Saarbrücken, cooked in Greece, Italy, France and Spain. Joachim Koerper is Chef de Cuisine of the Michelin Star rewarded Restaurant Eleven since 2004. I was so very excited what to expect and came with high expectations. Every expectation was exceeded and toped by surprises. The tasty ones, the host and service and all that crowned with the view!
We were seated on such a beautiful round table overviewing the park and Lisbon, people walking their dogs and the world seemed to be only a happy place in and around that modern building with glass fronts from bottom to top.
Enjoy my lunch through the pictures. I forgot what I ate, served on picture perfect arranged plates, but it felt like tasty-heaven, I still know that, and that’s all that counts, no?
But there was one detail that still makes me curious. A peeled little tomato cube- with a tiny dill-tip placed like a full stop at the end of a sentence. Did my imagination go wild, what do you think? Of course I was to shy to ask the Chef about the detail or for a picture. I still didn’t figure out, why this is such a big deal for me. Making pictures of every bite I take, but not able to pose for a group-shot. Even without a picture with Joachim Koerper I will always cherish that lunch in my memories. Please spoil yourself with a Menu at Eleven when you are in Lisbon.
