And then everything makes sense again. The worldwide touring Festival des Métiers said hello in my hometown. What a joy. From September 22 – 27, 2015 the Spanish Horse Riding school’s courtyard, the Stallburg, was the center point of the epitome of true craftsmanship.
I didn’t work for an entire week, because I simple had to visit and revisit the place on a regular basis. When I entered the door on Sunday afternoon the forth time, I feared they would recognize me and won’t let me in anymore. No such thing happened of course. It was just the atmosphere of people working many hours on one little piece. Handmade goods with passion and quality are rare to find nowadays and I often have to struggle with discussions why that is so important to me. Most of the time misunderstood for being a fashion victim, which I am clearly not. Visit my wardrobe or just my shoe closet and you will know that I live and buy very economically, not to say thrifty. That doesn’t necessarily mean that I don’t like to spend my money on beautiful things, mostly handmade unique pieces with heart and soul. But I am not the ladyslunch type of girl. I like to dig my hands in liquid color and my favorite topics are speaking about screen printing and sketching utilities or nerd stuff like pens, ink or which rubber works well on black cardboard. Well, a graphic designers life, I guess.
Enjoy my favorite pics and video snippets in a separate picture book on Stellerstories: here
and if you are into screen printing and printmaking visit my website for a german review: here
But please visit the exhibition when the Festival tours in your town. Tip: Come during lunchtime hours and you will enjoy the various handcraft stalls the most.
