An abandoned pedestrian underpass dating back to 1964 in the middle of the city became the latest attraction in vienna. Mr Matthias Kamp mastered the challenge to create an international dinner club right in front of the Opera House. Fine Food, good music and great Cocktails.
The centerpiece is a white sculpture which is stage and bar area at the same time with the dance floor in front.
The entrance reminds of the former function of the Albertina Passage. People enter the dinner club just in front of the Vienna State Opera and are guided through stairs and kind of an s-shaped “tunnel” into the main area passing the reception and the cloakroom. The first thing which guests see is again the center with the stage. Our design consists of modern elements combined with classic details. While the sculpture appears very futuristic the design of the dining area is inspired by American bar tradition from the 1950s and 1960s. Role model was Quentin Tarantino’s “Jack Rabbit Slims Twist Contest” from his film “Pulp Fiction”.
One of Austria’s best Chef’s, Reinhard Gerer, signs responsible for the menu of international cuisine, with special attention to the Austrian cuisine. The one and only reason I set foot at the place was the food; and it was delicious. Once. So I took a second chance and it was great again, but have a look at the pictures, they speak for themselves. They don’t really change the menu on a regular basis or offer an evening special for the night. So we had the exact same dinner 3 weeks later, except the cocktails. I guess it is not a place to visit weekly. But the international guests, who stay for one night will be blown away.
Fish for the Lady, Dry Aged Steak for the Gentleman.
Next time I will visit the place after dinner and order a cheese plate at the bar with some cocktails.
